The Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate is the central authority that
- examines applications for registration as an estate agent
- maintains a central register of estate agents
- exercises supervision of the registered estate agents
- provides information on sound estate agency practice
- promotes the development of sound estate agency practice
Our main target groups are estate agents and consumers involved in estate businesses i.e. sellers buyers and prospective buyers. At the Inspectorate we continuously develop new information material for both estate agents and consumers. We inform the consumers about the estate agents service as well as we inform both estate agents and consumers regarding sound estate agency practice.
The Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate practice in supervisory matters contributes to developing codes of conduct for the estate agents.
Daily we do answer questions from consumers, estate agents, students, consumer advisers, journalists and other interested parties. We manage annually some 800 registration applications, some 300 deregistration cases, between 400 - 500 supervision cases as well as some 1000 cases regarding fomal requirements.

Organization
The Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate is a small authority situated in Stockholm, established in 1995. The Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate includes a Disciplinary Board for the decisions taken in disciplinary matters.
The Swedish Estate Agents Inspectorate is reporting to the Ministry of Justice.

Staff: 17 persons including: one Head of Authority, one Administrative Director and Deputy Head of Authority, three Senior Legal Adviser, six Legal Adviser, one Administrative Assistant, two Registrar, one Assistant Registrar, one ITCoordinator, one Senior Information Officer.
The Inspectorate includes a Disciplinary Board, which consists of members appointed by the Government. The Disciplinary Board includes a chairman, a vice chairman as well as six other members and four substitutes. The chairman and vice chairman are lawyers and have some experience as court judges. The chairman of the board is also the Head of Authority. The Disciplinary Board decides whether an estate agent will not be allowed to act as an estate agent, or if the estate agent should be issued a disciplinary reminder or a warning. In most cases, however,a supervision matter is written off without any criticism of the estate agent.
